La Tentacion Pizza & Mexican Grill – Westville, NJ

La Tentacion Pizza & Mexican Grill – Westville, NJ

Small Bites Radio has been named Top Hospitality Shows on the Planet from 2020 – 2023, #Bluejeanfood.com named Top Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogs, Websites & Influencers from 2021-2023, Best Philly Food Blogs and Websites 2023, nominated by Metro Philly Newspaper 2022 Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment, and winner of Metro Philly Newspaper 2023 Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment.

This place truly hits the fusion of pizza parlor and Mexican restaurant perfectly. The service is really friendly and makes you feel at home while the ambiance is festive and makes it feel like a party eating there. The prices are decent for the quality of food and portion sizes. The mango habanero wings were awesome. Crisp on the outside and juicy wet and tender on the inside with a sauce that hits with a little heat to begin with but the sweetness settles it quickly and is nice. Fresh cut fries were great as well. I enjoy any place that goes with fresh cut fries. I had the rib eye tacos and they were seasoned just right. They also have lots of pizza choices that everyone in the place seemed to be enjoying so I will certainly be back to try them and an outdoor area for when the weather permits. This place was a pleasant surprise and if you have never been you should give them a try.

Again, in 2023, Small Bites with Donato Marino and Derek Timm of Bluejeanfood.com was blown away by winning the Best of the Best in the Philadelphia Region Arts & Entertainment category out of 80,000 votes tallied in total through Metro Philly’s Best of Philadelphia for 2023. Truly appreciate everyone who voted for us.

La Catrina Mexican Restaurant – Collingswood, NJ

La Catrina Mexican Restaurant – Collingswood, NJ

Small Bites Radio has been named Top Hospitality Shows on the Planet from 2020 – 2023, #Bluejeanfood.com named Top Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogs, Websites & Influencers from 2021-2023, Best Philly Food Blogs and Websites 2023, and nominated by Metro Philly Newspaper 2022 and 2023 Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment.

Many people around the Collingswood area were sad a few months ago to hear about the closing of The Tortilla Press which was around for over 20 years. Have no fear about where you should go for Taco Tuesday though as a little further down the road on Haddon Ave is La Catrina Mexican Restaurant and I think you will really enjoy a visit there. The service is as friendly as it gets feeling like you are welcome into their home and it’s no surprise as La Catrina is a fully family run operation with Jose Medina, Gloria Palillero, Geovanni Farfan-Perez, and Maria Palillero combining the many flavors of Mexico and bringing them to South Jersey. Maria is from Puebla, Geovanni is from Mexico City, and then mix over a decade of working in and around Philadelphia restaurants and you’ll find the perfect combination of authentic Mexican as well as a bit of American inspired meals and tastes here. The decor is lively and adds a nice flair to the ambiance. My meal was Cecina Tacos which is salty Mexican beef with sauteed onion and grilled cactus that was fantastic and an order of Al Pastor Tacos with the pork perfectly seasoned and pineapple complimenting the taco spot on. Really enjoyed my entire experience and will be back to try more of the menu.

Jalapenos Grill – Haddon Township, NJ

Jalapenos Grill – Haddon Township, NJ

I must admit that Mexican cuisine is not one of my strengths at ordering or eating something I like, so sadly I usually skip this type of food. It is odd because the seven or so odd times I have visited Mexico I have enjoyed my meals quite a bit there, but struggle finding the same at home. After enjoying a family show at The Ritz Theatre Company situated right next door to Jalapenos Grill (JG) I decided to give JG a try. The staff was extremely welcoming and warm the second we stepped foot inside JG. Language was a slight barrier, but was able to manage. Things started off with a complimentary basket of chips with dip.

JG was off to a very good start, as I enjoyed the dip and the chips were nice as well. Taking baby steps, I decided to try their pork carnitas taco, plain and on a hard shell.

Again JG shined with pork that was seasoned beautifully, moist, a generous serving, and very affordable. Feeling a bit more adventurous, my next order would be Pollo borracho drunk chicken served with rice and chipotle fries. (sorry for the blurry picture, the camera was not cooperating)

Let me start by saying the chipotle fries at first glance just seemed like run of the mill potatoes, but they were fabulous. They were cooked nice and crisp and seasoned to perfection. I always enjoy being surprised while dining. The rice was nice, but could have used a little more of a serving of it and a few more veggies possibly. The chicken sauce was very powerful. It was a mix of sweet and sour flavors with a punch of tequila in every bite. It was good, but overpowered the chicken completely. Also, the chicken was a bit on the dry side. The dish overall was good, just not grand. I enjoyed my time at JG and I will certainly be back to try more things on their menu.
