This place was a delight. Just when you find a great ramen they go above and beyond with an amazing fried rice. I had their Mini Combo with Fried Rice which is a Mini shoyu ramen and small Japanese fried rice. The shoyu ramen has soy sauce. 2 pieces charsiu, fish cake, spinach, bamboo, wood ear mushroom, and scallion. The ramen really hit the spot, but the surprise was the extremely flavorful Japanese fried rice. This truly was the perfect combo. Highly recommend a visit.

I can’t say enough good things about this location. Everything I had was delicious and the service was top notch. The wings with dry rub are some of the best wings around anywhere, ribs were great, chili brussel spouts was awesome, and the onion rings hit the spot, All of the sauces were good and if you like BBQ you need to check them out.

America’s history is not always bright and rosy. Charleston, South Carolina is one such area that has some terrible stories and traditions that took place previously. The past certainly is not forgotten, but it is there for us to remember and never forget so that such atrocities cannot happen again and highly recommend visiting the museums and historical places of the city and surrounding area. You can do and see many things while there, but they have recently been recognized as a culinary destination on top of a lot of other things they are doing well today for arts, entertainment, and recreation. Below are some places I enjoyed while there:
Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar – Charleston, SC
Really nice place and great good. Enjoyed the she-crab soup and shrimp with grits.
Ellis Creek Fish Camp – Charleston, SC
Very cool waterfront dining with great food. Had the calamari and their 3 piece grilled seafood platter with fried oysters and collard greens that were out of this world delicious.
Brown Dog Deli – Charleston, SC
Fun place with nice service, prices, and tasty french dip sandwich.
Handy and Hot – Charleston, SC
Flat out one of the best breakfast biscuit sandwich I’ve ever had. This thing is AWESOME! From celebrity Chef Vivian Howard I can only hope she expands this treat up to the Philadelphia area. It was their country ham biscuit sandwich with vanilla bean lemonade.
Poogan’s Smokehouse – Charleston, SC
Had a lot of fun here with a nice ambiance to the place. Had the cornbread, collard greens, and pulled pork slider.
Charleston Crab House – Charleston, SC
Good old school eatery. Had their Charleston red rice with a fried green tomato.
Christophe Artisan Chocolatier – Charleston, SC
This place is worth the visit just to see all the many creations of treats they make like the red high heels made of chocolate. On top of looking great they taste great as well.
Lil’ Yum Yums – City Market – Charleston, SC
A good snack to enjoy while shopping the City Market’s many blocks of vendors. Had the cinnamon and sugar mini donuts.
Shem Creek Crab House – Mt Pleasant, SC
Another location with a great view while dining. I had their she-crab soup that was really good, U-peel them shrimp, and Chef Terrell’s Famous Cajun Shrimp & Grits.

Hailing from Philadelphia’s Chinatown district Spice C decided to cross the river for those living in New Jersey to enjoy their fare as well. The service was very friendly and food was delicious. Really enjoyed my visit here. I had pot stickers, shrimp with broccoli, spicy Szechuan shrimp, and drunken noodle with shrimp. They are a nice addition to the Haddonfield food scene.

Jamaican food is one of my favorite types of cuisine. The flavor profile is mixed beautifully when done just right with that little bit of spicy elevating the dish in a good taste type of way instead of just spicy to be spicy. Let me tell you that Irie Mon Jamaican Restaurant’s Jerk chicken was spot on. I hate when some places just bake the chicken and throw spice on top. Not here! From the smokey flavor to the crisp skin every bite was delicious and really enjoyed my visit. They should be on your radar if you are fan of this cuisine. A welcome addition to this area of South Jersey.

With a name more fitting of a clothing boutique, Brynn Bradley is putting out a fashion show of cheesesteaks that taste delicious in South Jersey. Perfect portions of meat and cheese on a seeded roll that held it all beautifully. They are for sure one of the best in the South Jersey area.

Pico Rico BBQ – San Juan, Puerto Rico
This place is AWESOME! Quick fast casual eatery with all the delicious food you think of when in Puerto Rico at very affordable prices. I had chicken with rice that hit the spot.
Chloe Condado – San Juan, Puerto Rico
The view here alone is reason enough to visit. I could spend every evening just relaxing and having a drink on the porch. Best part is the food here is delicious as well. Had calamari rings and marinated grilled chicken mampo
Pinky’s Condado – San Juan, Puerto Rico
Great breakfast spot. Many different and interesting breakfast options. I had banana pancakes with bacon and eggs.
San Juan Smokehouse – San Juan, Puerto Rico
Fabulous, just fabulous this dining destination is. The vibe is really nice, but the food is even better. Some of the best restaurant barbeque anywhere. I had brisket nachos and a large order of ribs with fries. Everything was great.
Silk – San Juan, Puerto Rico
The night we dined here it was a place to be and be seen. A famous Hollywood actor was present and for a good reason. The food was really good, but my picture is terrible so don’t judge by what I show. I had the Mongolian beef with fried rice that was flavorful and the meat was tender.
La Heladería Funkyberry Ice Cream – San Juan, Puerto Rico –
Some different and interesting flavor choices here. Nice place for a treat and picturesque.
Cayo Caribe – San Juan, Puerto Rico –
The food here was top notch. Highly recommend a visit here. Had crab and beef turnovers, fish bites that were GREAT, and grouper filet in coconut sauce that was out of this world with rice and beans.
Orozco’s Restaurant – San Juan, Puerto Rico
Down home cooking at its best and a must visit when in San Juan for a true flavor. I had the Puerto Rican Combination which is roast pork, rice with pigeon peas, sweet plantain, and pastel.
Ropa Vieja Grill – San Juan, Puerto Rico
Hip place with happening décor and atmosphere. Had the fried red snapper in creole sauce with sautéed vegetables and mamposteao rice.

When Jim Pappas of Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure reached out to me asking to have lunch together the only thing that came to mind was ABSOLUTELY. This man is unabashedly a cheesesteak legend and authority. He is on a drive to eat 1,000 cheesesteaks in a few years which will be more cheesesteaks than most people eat in an entire lifetime. If you’re wondering where’s the beef, just ask Jim.
I’ve known Jim since almost the beginning of his journey. It has gone from a hobby and fun way to pass the time to a full fledged enterprise with t-shirts, calendars, website, personal appearances, and being spotlighted in national media such as Food & Wine along with many updates to 6ABC, FOX29, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many more. He’s the Cinderella Man of cheesesteak storybook tales.
One of the things I know Jim wanted to highlight and promote once he began to have a voice and fanbase is bringing light to the small independent business owners who have a decent cheesesteak that you may not have heard of previously. This is how and where Oaklyn Manor Bar & Grill in Oaklyn, New Jersey was chosen. Around since 1933 this is a mostly local scene with the space staying mostly the same except for a few changes here and there. The location was revived with a new energy 5 years ago when new owners Lisa Del Duke and Gary Mullins took over the helm. They are in high gear celebrating this anniversary year as a few months ago they hired Chef Jason Dubin to head the kitchen preserving local favorites while whipping up new delicious delicacies. They are situated in a tiny town with many great foodie choices. It’s a cozy spot to relax while catching up with friends and neighbors enjoying a decent bar style meal.
So how was the food? It was fabulous! Exactly what you look for in a local spot. I had their Oaklyn Cheese Steak which is Sliced rib eye steak, American cheese, and fried onions served on a poppy seed kaiser roll with a side of spicy pepper relish that went great on the sandwich, an order of fries, and wings that are house brined and baked and then flash fried. I asked to have the sauce on the side for the wings so I could try a few of them. Every sauce was great. Jim as in his words requested and had a John Cohl inspired mash-up as he asked a special request from the chef for a Texas-toast style cheesesteak that he enjoyed thoroughly and can see on his video documenting his visit. (Click Here for video) I did not have anything alcoholic to drink, but the drink menu is large and diverse providing anything and everything you could want. The prices for all items were extremely reasonable for the quality they are putting out. Providing full disclosure our meal was complimentary. Let me be clear though we fought to pay, had the money in hand to provide, and judged the food with the mindset of being a customer, but they insisted on picking up our tab. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience from start to finish. Be sure to stop by and try them for yourself.

The food here is mostly Latin style focused. I had their pernil and rice which was pretty basic. Establishment is completely take-out or delivery as the interior is not setup for any patrons. In regards to menu it is posted only on social media as no proper website or paper menu. The day I ordered was around 4pm and even though menu was posted just two hours prior on Facebook the large majority of choices I asked for were out or not serving that day and even the choice I did ask for over the phone when I arrived they said they forgot they didn’t have it so I went with the pernil as it was that or baked chicken with white or yellow rice as the only things to choose from. Don’t know if the woman was a regular employee or helping out as she didn’t seem to be fully aware of where everything was in the place as had to search for forks and napkins. They have potential as the area they are serving lacks take-out diversity. I will be interested to see if they can capitalize.

One of the greatest joys in life for me is enjoying good Jamaican food. Let me tell you that Caribbean Paradise Jamaican Restaurant is a good spot to stop by as their Jerk Chicken was really good. The portion was generous and prices very reasonable. If in the area this is a decent spot to order from.
