Then we will be joined by Fred and Perteet McSween Spencer, Co-founders of AYO Foods bringing authentic West-African Cuisine to U.S. grocers with their homemade frozen food line being in nearly 50 Whole Foods Market locations. Also the company just launched their new hot sauce line which will be carried by 1200 grocery stores across the US making it accessible to those who love to explore and enjoy ethnic foods. AYO, which means joy in Yoruba, features nutrient-dense, flavor-rich, frozen entrees that are conveniently packaged and now all of their dishes can be spiced up even more with their new West African Shito Sauce and Pepper Sauce being added to their product line.
Last but certainly not least, Richard Massi the President and Co-Founder of Fight On Makenna Foundation will tell us about the 2021 Bite for the Fight Food Festival happening on Saturday, September 25th. The Fight on Makenna Foundation was created in the memory of his 14 year old daughter Makenna who lost her battle with leukemia in September 2018. The Fight on Makenna Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for kids and families facing pediatric cancer. In their two short years of existence, they have raised over $200K to help fund programs in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to help kids and families as they deal with the rigors of cancer treatments. Makenna was a foodie (mostly carnivore) and loved friends, family, the Food Network, and the Philadelphia Eagles. So they created Bite for the Fight to showcase some of the best food, beer, wine, and spirits in the Philadelphia Area. Makenna was a fighter to the end of her short life and they brought that competitive spirit to the festival by allowing the restaurants to compete for the honor of the Best Bite voted on by the patrons of the festival. The 2019 event was even attended by Chef Robert Irvine.
