Grand Canyon and Route 66 – 2019

Hualapai Ranch – Grand Canyon West – Western Rim – Peach Springs, AZ

2

Things started out at the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon. The top picture was at Guano Point and this is what you have to do to make sure your child doesn’t veer off and fall off the cliff while you get your picture taken. I didn’t take a picture of the food, but it should be noted. You will get corn on the cob, a salad bar, and roasted chicken if you get your meal at Guano Point. The ranch was a fabulously fun time and we stayed at the cabins on site which were clean and modern and I was happy we stayed overnight. I didn’t know what to expect, but the stay was fantastic. The staff and crew around the area were amazing and beyond friendly. There were tons of games and things to do for the entire family. The dinner on-site was ribs with steamed vegetables, a snack of fireside s’more at night, and the breakfast the following morning was scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. If you have kids, this is a must to do while in the Grand Canyon area and staying overnight is well worth it.

El Tovar Dining Room – Grand Canyon National Park -Southern Rim – Grand Canyon Village, AZ

The El Tovar Dining Room is an elegant American restaurant inside the El Tovar Hotel with Grand Canyon vistas from some tables. Well we were lucky enough to be seated at one of the tables with a view. The view was stunning, service impeccable, and food was delicious from start to finish. I had the signature French onion soup gratinee, crab stack with lump blue claw crabmeat, diced avocado, red onions, diced tomato, fried onion, cilantro oil, and entrée was sautéed duck breast with blueberry compote, roasted red potato, and carrots.

Goldies Route 66 Diner – Route 66 – Williams, AZ

8

Goldies Route 66 Diner is a Casual throwback with 1960s styling offering classic American breakfast, lunch & dinner eats. Once again the theme of this post is me forgetting to take a picture of the food. I can tell you this though. Goldies Route 66 Diner was as good as any famous Jersey or Philadelphia Diner around. I don’t think I’ve ever had a better diner experience outside of Tri-State area. I had delicious marbled rye bread, with over easy eggs, and fried potatoes. The décor is exactly what you want to see and done tastefully with a nice gift shop area, and service was down home and bubbly while being extremely affordable. The town itself is cool to explore as well to spend the day.

Viva Las Vegas 2019

Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen – Caesar’s Palace – Las Vegas, NV

With the announcement that future Hell’s Kitchen seasons will be shot on location at his restaurant and filming done at a sound-stage at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, I figured why not stop by the Vegas Strip location. Chef Gordon Ramsay was in and around the area as they are currently filming, so it was interesting to see the setup and how the staff were doing. The ambiance is top notch and they make you feel as though you are in the middle of the show without being cheesy or cheap. I was lucky enough to be seated right in front to get the feel of being in the kitchen and observe all the action going on. The service was impeccable from start to finish, and food was awesome. I had lobster risotto, pan seared scallops, Caesar salad, beef wellington, and an AMAZING sticky toffee pudding.

Chart House – Golden Nugget – Las Vegas, NV

Situated on the extremely eccentric and eclectic Fremont Street where anything you can imagine, you just might see in person, is Chart House inside the Golden Nugget. The setting of the restaurant is absolutely stunning with a 75,000 gallon aquarium surrounding the dining area. From start to finish I was impressed with the meal. The service was perfect and personable, and the food was delicious. I had the lobster bisque, calamari with fired veggies and a side of kimchi sauce that was to die for when added to the appetizer, grilled octopus, and a Chart House prime rib with a side of king crab legs and an order of sautéed mushrooms.

Sam Woo BBQ – Las Vegas, NV

Sam Woo BBQ is a favorite for Hong Kong-style Chinese foods in a casual, no-nonsense setting on the famous Spring Mountain Road in the Chinatown section of Las Vegas where you can get any Asian delight your heart desires. We were treated like family and service was friendly and efficient during our visit. I had the BBQ platter which was roasted duck, roasted pork, and bbq pork and also had their Mongolian Beef and shrimp fried rice. The duck was REALLY good and the both pork items were delicious as well. The Mongolian Beef was tasty. The shrimp fried rice was nice. Only thing I would ask for would be for larger shrimp my shrimp were too tiny and they could have been cooked a little more and seasoned better.

Combining menus and recipes with visual experience and inspiration–as well as insight into the traditions of the food and celebrations–it serves as a practical resource that gives home cooks and hosts step-by-step guidance on how to re-create these fabulous meals at their own tables.

Still thinking of Italy, we will have in studio Domenick Crimi the owner of Cappuccio’s Meats in the heart of the 9th Street Italian Market Philadelphia in South Philly Cappuccio’s Meats sells Old-World Style handmade sausages and is an artisanal butchery with cured meats, dry ages steaks, chops, and other cuts of the highest quality meats all butchered on premise and never processed at a third party location. Go and bring Old-World Style and Quality to your modern family’s dinner table.

Then trying to revive the East Coast – West Coast rivalry like the old days of rap between Diddy Bad Boy Records and Dr Dre Death Row Records we will have on Cassie Hepler of ExplorewithCassie a lifestyle and travel blog to discuss who is better when it comes to food and drinks. Who will come out on top, the East Coast or West Coast? Hopefully no one gets hurt with this new battle brewing in the culinary world.

It has become her mission to make a positive difference in people’s lives, from the simplest circumstances to many of the most disturbing illnesses facing mankind. In this lifetime, her goal is to motivate people to take their “Health” into their own hands and not wait to change until after they become ill, but instead make wellness and health a priority!

With Derek away traveling and Donato taking a week off, the show will be hosted by Small Bites Radio’s resident Vegan Chef Christina Martin of Cooking to Nourish for some fun and food talk with the guests.

In studio we are very excited to have return one of our favorite chefs, Food Network Chopped Champion Chef Timothy Witcher who had been delighting hungry diners with his restaurant concept The Wing Kitchen at the Wedgwood Country Club. The Wing Kitchen concentrates on great fresh ingredients, simply crafted by expert hands, but embraces a big bold authentic flavor that transcends the chicken wing. Each box of wings, tenders, and fries is an experience. The first few bites will excite, but licking those salty spices and sweet and savory sauces off the fingers is what will keep you coming back!

Then also in studio will be Barry Galasso, a graduate of the Philadelphia Restaurant School. He has been employed at Camden County Technical Schools as a culinary educator since 1997. In his time at the school there have been many accomplishments by students both individually and in team setting through cooking competitions. He has a passion for creating great flavor profiles for food and sharing that knowledge with his students, family, and friends.

What goes with good food? Wine of course! Well the perfect person to come in studio to talk about wine is Zachary Marcus Cesare Harris. For years, while developing a nice palate for wines and meeting a number of great people in the wine industry, he noticed that not only were there virtually no marketing campaigns directed at people of color, but that very few in the industry were trying to develop and educate these demographics earnestly about wine. So he launched his own wine brand called IkaVina Wine and Spirits LLC. He launched this revolutionary wine label so that he can run it his way, but also to market to and develop the virtually untapped consumer base of African Americans, Latino Americans, and Asian Americans with a woman-centric focus. Harris is also talented in music, photography, multimedia, film and video, and has also authored and published three books with a core focus on the issues of love from a man’s perspective.

Chef Mia then trained at The Culinary Institute of America and apprenticed for established Chefs including Wolfgang PuckThomas Keller, and José Andrés and is now a private chef in Visit Miami and New York, New York. Like many young women in the restaurant industry have experienced, Mia was often called “cocky” or “arrogant” for expressing confidence in her abilities. Only 28 years old at start of filming Hell’s Kitchen and a mere 5 feet tall, Chef Mia was frequently called “Munchkin” and dismissed as a serious threat by her competitors, but showing them all wrong, she won more challenges than any other competitor in Hell’s Kitchen history. Chef Mia has also appeared on Food NetworkChopped where she made it to the final round before barely being defeated by Executive Chef Royden Ellamar of Sensi restaurant at Bellagio Las Vegas Visit Las Vegas. We can’t wait!

To celebrate National Cheesesteak DAY! on March 24th a partnership of famed Campo’s Philly Cheesesteaks and Philly’s own Hank’s Beverage Company Gourmet Root Beer and we will talk to Tony Salvatore who is Co-Founder, partner, and Chief Customer Officer for Genuine Hanks Beverages about this collaboration. Campo’s Deli and Hank’s Gourmet Beverages are making March a month-long party for cheesesteak lovers. They have joined forces, and their beloved culinary inventions, to create the first authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich crafted with a sweet and spicy rub and marinade made with critically-acclaimed Hank’s Gourmet Root Beer and its secret Philadelphia formula called Hank’s RBM Cheesesteak. This limited-edition delectable will feature tender, thin-sliced ribeye steak grilled after an application of Hank’s Secret Root Beer Spice Rub, drawn from Hank’s own classic, 100-year-old Philadelphia recipe, and a 24-hour “float” in a special marinade made with Hank’s Gourmet Root Beer. This mouth-watering steak will be topped with a choice of the classic Cheese Whiz, or Swiss, American, Jalapeno Cheddar or Sharp Provolone Cheese and other toppings, including Grilled Onions, Mushrooms, Peppers hot and sweet, and many more. It’s all comes served up in a plain or seeded Italian roll, made fresh by local bakers. The special limited-edition cheesesteak sandwich will be available now the through the end of March at Campo’s landmark Old City location at 214 Market Street. Campo’s also operates outlets at Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park. Throughout the month, Campo’s will offer the tasty Hank’s RBM Cheesesteak, paired together with a bottle of Hank’s Root Beer (or one of their other delectable flavors, including Wishniak Black Cherry, Vanilla Cream, Birch Beer and Orange Cream) for a discounted package price of. $9.75 – a healthy $3.00 savings. Don’t live in or around Philadelphia? Don’t worry, Hank’s is widening its Cheesesteak Day celebration across the country with a nationwide poster campaign spotlighting this national holiday at other cheesesteak and specialty sandwich chains that carry its brands. Under the headline, “Two Brothers from the City of Brotherly Love,” the posters suggest consumers enjoy a cheesesteak and Hank’s Root Beer to mark March 24, National Cheesesteak Day. In Greater Philadelphia, this includes Dalessandro’s SteaksChubbys SteaksWit or Witout CheesesteaksHoagie Xpress and The American Pub Philadelphia. Multi-location Cheesesteak chains participating across the nation include Big Tony’s West Philly Cheesesteaks of DeSoto in Texas, Connecticut’s Blue Cactus Grill, Philly Grill located throughout Florida and New England, as well as the growing Philly’s Best chain that’s spread across southern California, a true cheesesteak hotbed.

Staying in Philadelphia, we are happy to be joined by Mike and Lisa Spinelli Lorenzo who are the owners of Lorenzo’s CAFE Espresso Ristorante Italiano who have been voted the #1 restaurant in Tacony, Pennsylvaniaarea and have also won an award from Yelp three years in a row for being a FIVE-STAR rating on the site. Lorenzo’s Cafe Espresso & Ristorante Italianoare a cozy BYOB family run business well known for having some of the best meatballs around the area along with traditional Italian dishes all made fresh on the spot. If you take a peek inside the kitchen, you will see that they serve only the freshest ingredients to their customers as they are one of the few establishments with no freezers or microwaves for the chef to use. That’s right – made fresh and made to order – every single time. To top it all off, Lisa is also a psychic medium that does readings to help people heal from grieving, does private readings, group readings, and they even have event nights at the restaurant where you can have dinner and then a reading. I would say we can’t wait, but Lisa already read my mind!

What would I do if I met a person like that? Will I make a recipe? This powerful function of the book can appeal to anyone, regardless of the relationship situation. Learn how to share information, so that vegan values get just consideration, without being socially abrasive to those not yet holding these ideals. This book will not sit on your shelf for long. You might read the dating portion once or twice, but you or your date can cook the recipes over and over for each other. Or take the book out in public. You might pick up a date if seen reading it!
