The Square Meal – Oaklyn, NJ

I enjoyed Jerk Chicken Breast, with roasted broccoli, and Salt and Pepper purple potatoes. Service was very friendly, efficient, and prices are reasonable. Will go back for sure to try their other offerings.

This Sunday, October 8th at 635pm Small Bites with Glenn Gross and Derek Timm of Bluejeanfood.com on Wildfire Radioreturns with another stellar lineup! We start out thinking about the tastes of Italy. When you think of Italy you probably think about pasta and we are joined by Marie Dobson the Senior Brand Manager of San Giorgio Pasta. For a young Italian immigrant named Girolamo Guerrisi, it would only take two years of working modest jobs in America before finding his footing. In 1914, Guerrisi took over the Keystone Macaroni Company, a one-man operation in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, from an elderly macaroni maker anxious to retire and transformed it into one of the most recognizable names in pasta, San Giorgio. In addition to classic white pasta, they also produce: gluten-free pasta, organic pasta, whole wheat pasta, noodles, high fiber pasta, veggie pasta, ancient grains pasta and reduced calorie pasta. They also did #SanGiorgio4Goodwhere for every purchase of San Giorgio pasta they donated one serving of pasta, up to 2 million servings total nationally, to a food bank in your area. Then in response to consumers’ desire to make more informed choices about whether to eat foods which are made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), San Giorgio has earned Non-GMO Project Verification on some their most popular pasta products. We bet a good Italian coffee or espresso from Donato Marino’s D and L Coffee Service Inc. would be the perfect accompaniment to a San Giorgio meal. Mangia everyone!
Keeping our thoughts around the Mediterranean area, we welcome Diane Kochilas, an award-winning cookbook author, television personality, consulting chef, teacher, and one of the world’s foremost authorities on Greek cuisine. Diane launched a delectable cooking program – “My Greek Table With Diane Kochilas” (www.DianeKochilas.com) that premiered October 4th on public television stations across the country (check local listings) with 13 amazing episodes. The series takes viewers to the source, as Kochilas Diane introduces the stunning vistas, fabulous food, easy, nutritious recipes, and the unmatched hospitality Greece is known for worldwide. To celebrate the launch of the television series, St. Martin’s Presswill re-release Diane’s first book The Food and Wine of Greece. What a joy!
Getting closer to home in Philly, sometimes you may feel a little crabby, and now Luke Holden and Ben Conniff the co-founders of Luke’s Lobster want you to claw your way into some delicious lobster, or crab and shrimp. Luke’s Lobster opened a new shack in Philadelphia’s Market East this July which is their second in Philly joining Luke’s Lobster; a haven for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the highest-quality sustainable, traceable seafood in a rustic environment that evokes the Maine Coast. The vision of Maine native and one-time lobsterman Luke Holden, Luke’s Lobster is a cozy seafood shack committed to serving simple dishes highlighting superior ingredients — including lobster rolls, crab rolls, shrimp rolls, clam chowder, lobster bisque, salads, slaw and more. From ocean to plate, Luke’s handles every step of the supply chain to ensure that only exceptionally fresh seafood is ever served. Luke’s Lobster has already been hailed as the “best lobster roll in Philadelphia.”
Joining us in studio is someone else who is having a grand opening soon in Center City Philadelphia. That would be Chef Robert Bennett who in February 2018 is opening up a 4,000 sq ft bakery at 16th and JFK in Suburban Station. Chef Robert Bennett joined Classic Cake in December 2005 as Executive Chef. In this role, Robert is the creative driving force behind the company’s product offerings and introduces unique, customized breads and desserts to the commercial market. Robert’s oversight also involves the daily operations of the bakery and is responsible for ensuring the company’s high quality product and service standards. For over 30 years, Robert Bennett has shared his passion for cooking through his work as a creative chef, teacher and owner. Most recently Chef Bennett has appeared on QVC here in the U.S. 5 times selling Classic Cake’s pastries and traveled to Seoul, Korea for several appearances on the CJO Shopping Network selling Classic’s own Philadelphia cheesecakes. Locally, Robert donates his time and dessert specialties to more than 30 charities each year.
Then also taking place in Philly at the DoubleTree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City is Philadelphia, PA – The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show, America’s largest interactive comedy murder mystery dinner show and we will have in studio Ian Beutler the Director of Dinner Detective Philadelphia to talk or maybe murder us. Legendary writer and producer David E. Kelley (Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, LA Law) taught founder of The Dinner Detective Scott O’Brien how to write. Then in 2014, O’Brien created America’s largest interactive murder mystery dinner theater, The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show, which currently boasts packed houses in 25 states, and redefines what the standard should be for 2017’s true theater lover. During a four-course meal, cast members engage with the audience, forcing them to toil together to discover clues and solve murders based on actual, real-world cold cases. What else is new beyond a thrilling, true-stories-based script? For starters, hidden amongst diners are cast members who blend in seamlessly, deceiving the audience into questioning anything and everything. It’s impossible to tell who is who and what is what – and it makes for a maddening great time, without a single second of lag. It’s a great night out and you should attend one of these dinners. Save 10% off your tickets by entering code “SmallBites” at checkout!
Small Bites Radio correspondent Actor John DiRenzo will also be helping in studio with his valuable insight and experience in the culinary world and also be sure to catch him on QVC selling the high quality Copper Chef products.

Under the Moon Cafe – Bordentown, NJ
Really enjoyed my visit here. From the ambiance, service, and food everything was top-notch. It has been a long time since I’ve visited Bordentown, New Jersey and after dining here I will have to come back frequently now.
Here is the list of delicious foods.
Octopus grilled, with potatoes, and dashed with lemon – one of the better octopus dishes around
Palacios Chorizo cooked with Brandy and onions – REALLY Tasty!
Manchego cheese with asian pear, Lavender honey – So light yet so yummy
Meatloaf Argentinian style wrapped in bacon and stuffed with mozzarella egg and roasted red peppers – Many different layers of flavor that worked well together
Runway Cafe – Lumberton, NJ

Situated at the South Regional Airport and across from the really nice Air Victory Museum sits the Runway cafe. Very cozy, friendly service. I had grilled chicken, with roasted red peppers, provolone cheese, with a pesto spread on a Panini with a small bag of chips and a pickle.
Reggae Grill – Camden, NJ
Delicous Jerk Chicken with rice and peas and cabbage. All the food was very good, decent prices, service was top notch, and will certainly be back

Two Fish BYOB – Haddonfield, NJ

Sometimes hype is a bad thing. It builds suspense. It makes you wonder. You anticipate greatness. Well Two Fish BYOB in Haddonfield, NJ has been earning quite the following and press accolades. Just yesterday they were named by USA Today Network as one of the Best Restaurants in New Jersey and where you need to eat NOW. They are on the best of list on OpenTable, Yelp, and also mentioned with raving reviews in many newspapers and online mediums. That’s a quite a title to live up to with just a tad bit of pressure, and a lot of hype. Sounds like a job for the Hype Bros, Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder. Ok, maybe not since this is about food and not a WWE wrestling match, but you get the gist.

I would give you my two cents, but Two Fish BYOB had me beat with their penny covered bathroom floor which was pretty cool to see, so I’ll tell you this. Two Fish BYOB is damn good, great service, very intimate, and somewhere you certainly should be dining if you like a nice night out with a delicious dinner. They are somewhat new and have a VERY small menu, but I heard they change the menu regularly to keep it fresh. Chef Mike Stollenwerk has a recipe for success and currently people really enjoy his current recipe including myself. I will certainly be back and hope the recipe just continues to impress and grow seasonally.

This Sunday, September 10th, the Philadelphia Eagles 2018 NFL season is kicking off and the hometown team is currently in 1st Place 😉 and SB is back LIVE this Sunday, September 10th at 635pm on WF and just like Hank Williams Jr. sings, we hope you all are READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL, a Sunday night party! We have joining us Coach Dick Vermeil who took the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 1980 with the memorable team of Ron Jaworski, Ken Dunek, and Harold Carmichael. Coach Vermeil also had the St. Louis Rams win their first and only Super Bowl and he also inducted in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. Coach Vermeil comes from a rich wine legacy — and has embarked on a second career as a winemaker. Coach Vermeil’s great grandfather on his mother’s side owned a vineyard, and his paternal great grandfather used the grapes to make wine at home for the family. Coach Vermeil turned his hobby of winemaking into a thriving business. Today, Vermeil sources fruit from that same vineyard and manages Vermeil Wines in the heart of Napa Valley.
Joining Coach Vermeil on our program will be celebrity Chef Chef Sylva Senat who is known for running kitchens with high-quality ingredients, key flavor combinations and exceptional technique. After a star turn on Bravo’s “Top Chef,” his latest restaurant Maison 208 with builder Herb Reid III, opened in Washington Square last spring to stellar reviews as well as overseeing Dos Tacos. They are both on to talk about Philly Pours event which will benefit RHD’s Children’s Services, a diverse continuum of effective and therapeutic services that have helped thousands of children and their families achieve their behavioral and educational goals. Now in its second year, Philly Pours takes place on Friday, September 22nd at 6:00 pm at the Fretz Showroom in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The event features five dining experiences pairing Vermeil Wines with a menu specially curated by Chef Sylva Senat. An exclusive VIP event with Coach Vermeil and Chef Sylva will also take place. Additional information can be found on the Philly Pours website:

That is alone is enough for some shows, but this is Small Bites and we took a week off so we are going to work even harder this week. So also joining us will be Ed Herr the President and CEO of Herr Food Inc. Ed Herr grew up in the snack food business and aspired early on to dedicate his professional career to advancing Herr Foods Inc. As President, Ed’s responsibilities range from general administration of the $250 million family business, including sales, marketing and manufacturing, to management of fleet, farms and properties. He also oversees the company’s activities in the areas of charitable giving and community and corporate relations.
Ed has a life-long devotion to his community, which he has demonstrated through active service. He serves on the boards of a number of organizations. Locally these include: Oxford Mainstreet Inc., the Oxford Senior Center, and the Lighthouse Youth Center. In 2009, Ed helped to found a local faith community, SILO – Serving, Inspiring, Loving Others, and currently serves on the Leadership Team. Ed also serves on the board of the Navigators Church Discipleship Ministry headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the board of New York City Relief. His greatest gift is making our favorite snack Herr’s Sour Cream & Onion which is a must for any school lunch or football party. We can’t wait to talk to him and this amazing company with delicious snacks for any occasion and how when you combine a signature Philly flavor with a popular summer snack you get a crabby stroke of snacking genius. For Herr’s, that’s exactly what happened when Chickie’s & Pete’s whipped up a few hundred servings of kettle corn dusted with its signature crab seasoning and sold it in a limited batch to hungry crowds at Penn’s Landing and Wildwood Boardwalk. The success of the snack inspired Herr’s to partner with the Philly brand to turn the snack into its new Chickie’s & Pete’s Sweet and Crabby Kettle Corn.
Then we have joining us to celebrate their 25th anniversary is Francis Schott and Mark Pascal the owners of Stage Left Steak: A Contemporary American Steakhouse
& StageLeftWineShop.com in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Restaurateurs Francis Schott and Mark Pascal operate two of New Jersey’s most storied restaurants. Stage Left Steak — celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017 — which is famous for its wood-grilled steaks, award-winning wine list and pioneering cocktail program, and has been an incubator for many of the NY region’s top chefs and mixologists. Serving Brooklyn-Italian style fare, Catherine Lombardi opened in 2005, paying homage to the cooking of Mark’s grandmother. Executive Chef James (J.R.) Belt presides over both kitchens. Ricky Stevens is Chef de Cuisine of Stage Left Steak. Schott and Pascal bonded over their shared love of food and drink upon meeting at Rutgers. For more than 8 years, the duo hosted the podcast, The Restaurant Guys, chatting with esteemed culinary guests from Gael Greene and John Mariani to Ruth Reichl and Chefs Eric Ripert and Grant Achatz. It’s going to fun to chat with them.
Someone who is going to enjoy the show and will be in studio as well is Lauren Biddle the Founder of the blog Just Grubbin. They are not professional chefs or anything like that, just a group of friends that absolutely love food. So they decided to start a blog and document their food adventures. You can find out more about them at:
https://justgrubbin.com/
Tired yet? Well pick yourself up, because we also have joining us Wil Levins the President of the Gloucester City Democrat Club looking to make Gloucester Great. What does he think of Hillary Clinton putting the blame on Bernie Sanders in her new Hillary Rodham Clinton Books #WhatHappened? More importantly though, what will politics look like in the future? He will also want to talk about the Gloucester City Democratic Club comedy night fundraiser on Friday October 27th. Sounds like you better get the popcorn ready, I hope Herr’s has some more of that Crabby Kettle Corn for us.
Actor John DiRenzo will also be helping in studio with his valuable insight and experience in the culinary world.
