If you are looking for an old school Italian experience of the Boardwalk Empire style days during Atlantic City Boardwalk’s heyday you don’t have to look any further than Chef Vola’s where you feel like you will have to know the special knock on the door for them answer. You can’t just walk into Chef Vola’s or call them up, use grubhub, doordash, etc. to order from them. You need to leave a message for them to call you back after you advise the day and time you want to dine with them (and be sure to give a month or two advance notice) and they will tell you if you’ve been accepted and confirmed or if they are fully booked. They were allowing take-out, but you still had to know the secret password to order with them, but they have now ceased doing take-out orders. Well let me tell you no matter how you dine with them, you need to make sure you do. They food was absolutely delicious and amazing. I had the Milk Fed Veal medallions with Peppers, mushrooms and onions, sautéed in extra virgin olive oil and Garlic that just blew me away how great it was. I normally don’t eat veal or enjoy it most times, but it was recommended and let me tell you it is a must order if you go. The veal was so tender I was able to cut it with just my fork and the flavor was suburb throughout the dish. Also served was House Salad made with iceberg & romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, pepperoni, sharp provolone cheese, black olives, pepperoncini peppers, chopped red onions and garlic croutons, topped with anchovies with their house extra virgin olive oil/balsamic vinaigrette dressing served on the side, broiled half of chicken cut up, and Butterscotch and rum ricotta cheese pie.

I wish at times I videotaped my eating adventures. This would have been one of them. The gentlemen who took my order on the phone was the same young gentleman who was behind the register. He was so funny making jokes at every turn. He really needs to have a show as he was entertaining as could be. Just the personable feel here is worth a visit, but the food is good here as well so that is a bonus. I had the Thai Dumpling, Beef Drunken Noodles, and Honey Duck. While in the area be sure to visit The SteelStacks.

This laid back country drinking hole hits the spot with bbq themed tavern fair. I had the Hickory Smoked Prime Rib Cheesesteak Melt topped with caramelized onion, mushroom, melted cheddar jack cheese, and creamy horseradish sauce and served hot on a toasted brioche bun with house fried chips and an order of pulled pork as well with applesauce.

This place is as old-school Americana as it gets. Close to Lost River Caverns it makes for a nice pit-stop along the way and the food was awesome. Great greasy burger and Jersey dog were just fantastic. Highly recommended and the fries were good too, but sadly didn’t get in the picture.

What a joy and great meal here. This is a perfect example of don’t judge a book by its cover as I know the pictures look terrible. Don’t trust the pictures. The food was great. The Lobster Bisque was amazing, 1/2 LB. Old Bay Poached Peel & Eat Shrimp were so good, Steamed Clams with celery, shallot, butter, and then Pan Seared Scallops with cauliflower puree, candied bacon lardons, caramelized walnuts, pomegranate seeds, warm maple bacon thyme vinaigrette.

You may think just as I did that a cheesesteak on a soft pretzel as just a gimmick. Well let me tell you it was fantastic and really worked! The meat was really high quality and the pretzel worked perfectly. I also had an order of fries, kids hot dog platter, and a chicken cutlet sandwich with sharp provolone. Everything was top notch and highly recommend a visit here if in the area.

She has teamed up with Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater Philadelphia’s (JFCS) Nourishing Community events, a once-a-month virtual cooking series featuring top-area chefs, home cooks, and cookbook authors sharing recipes, and tips from their kitchens while raising funds to support JFCS food relief programs to battle food insecurity in the region with previous events having appearances from Frank E. Olivieri of The Original Pat’s King of Steaks and Sara May of South Hill Cider. “Food insecurity across the region is at an all-time high,” said Pia Eisenberg, Sr. Vice President, Community Engagement, JFCS Greater Philadelphia. “We are grateful to the participating chefs for giving us this opportunity to come together in a fun and engaging way to raise much-needed dollars for JFCS’ food relief efforts in support of the most vulnerable in our region.” Amelia will be appearing on Tuesday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m., preparing borscht and it is an amazing dish you want to learn how to make. Be sure to contact JFCS as registration is required to attend their virtual events and Zoom links are provided once registration is completed.
We will also talk to Sebastian Joseph-Day, starting nose tackle for the NFL Los Angeles Rams to discuss his latest project, Dine N Bash, a Digital Series about his love of food and culture. The series, which airs on YouTube highlights local restaurants in Los Angeles, sharing their origin stories, top dishes and what makes them so unique. Joseph-Day’s love of food came from his parents who are from Haiti. As a child he watched his parents make everything from chilean seabass to homemade risotto and even Sebastian’s favorite lamb dish! Combining his love of food and passion to uplift others around him, Joseph-Day created Dine & Bash. Joseph-Day, who plays a key role in the LA Rams number one ranked defense in the NFL, has a huge personality, and an ever-bigger heart. This off-season he donated meals to frontline workers and hosted his own online fundraiser to raise even more money for COVID-19 relief. Joseph-Day has also been active in social justice initiatives, recently writing an OP ED in Medium on educational inequality as well as presenting a check on behalf of the Players Coalition to schools in the LA area for educational support. While at Toscana he catered then Joe Biden and now President Joe Biden’s daughter’s wedding and cooked for the King and Queen of VisitSweden. After Toscana he became Culinary Director for High 5 Hospitality and went on to open Stone Balloon, Limestone BBQ and Bourbon, and Eggspectation. He was voted Best Chef Delaware 2017, 2018, and 2019. He was also selected as one of the 40 outstanding leaders under 40 by Delaware Business Times. He competed on Guy Fieri’s Guys Grocery Games 3 times and Beat Bobby Flay. After seeing himself on TV wanted to get healthy and began Full Circle Food with best friend and CIA alumnus Tim Bolt. They serve Pennsylvania from Philadelphia down to the Delaware Beaches and some parts of Maryland. All their meals are fully prepared, gluten and dairy free, and 500 calories and under. They started it in 2017 out of Tim’s family kitchen until they couldn’t fit any more with less than $3000 and have grown to serve areas across 4 states.

The wings here couldn’t be more delicious. They are a MUST eat in South Jersey. Lai Thai Wings with garlic and house chili basil sauce and topped with cashew nut was quite the surprise in a good way. The other things I had were also good and tasty, but the wings won the crown. I also had Shrimp Pad Kee Mao, Beef Pad See-Ew, and Pork Thai Fried Rice.
