Corson’s Steaks – Haddonfield, NJ

Cheesesteaks have gained the spotlight and are very serious business. They also bring huge arguments of who is the best, type of cheese used, meat selection, how it sliced or chopped, does roll stands up, etc. and more. Well another contender has entered the ring and they are coming out swinging. Corson’s Steaks is putting out a really quality cheesesteak at a reasonable price and is more like a well seasoned fighter than a rookie new to the scene. Maybe it is due to their background. The roll was a decent size and held the generous portion of meat and cheese nicely without getting soggy and didn’t fall apart at all. The meat was sliced a little thicker than most, but was a good quality of rib-eye and it let the meat shine instead of chopping it to death like some places while not being chewy or greasy at all with a great balance of cheese to meat. The onions are an added charge, and were a really good compliment. An awesome surprise was the side of fries. They are hand-cut and wonderful. It felt like a summertime boardwalk treat with just the right amount of salt. I only wish they asked for a side of malt vinegar for me to dip them into.

This endeavor is the brainchild of Chef Mark Rooks who has a busy blocking going on in Haddonfield with Corson’s, Rent A Chef, and Beast of the Street all at the same place. It’s a mini, but very powerful foodie empire he has going on there. Corson’s just might be the piece that cements an expansion legacy and what dreams are made out of if they can keep up with the quality and demand that is sure to come. Highly recommend a visit.

It’s the holiday season so you’re probably looking for somewhere to get your cookie or tray of desserts to take to work, a dinner party, or for yourself to host others at home. Well Sweet Treats is a good choice with friendly service, decent prices, and of course a good variety of ‘SWEET TREATS’. I had their chocolate chip brownie and chocolate chip cannoli. Both were decent and I enjoyed them.

Syracuse, New York

Big news has been coming out of Syracuse, New York. Micron has announced a $100 Billion dollar investment creating microchips in Onondaga County. Syracuse University has plans for their campus and other improvements, GENIUS NY program, and much more is going on.

That sounds like a lot of work, but what about play? They have that covered as well. We visited Erie Canal Museum, Syracuse Crunch, Syracuse University Art Museum, Everson Museum of Art, The MOST, and the Museum Of Intrigue at Destiny USA.

How about the food? It didn’t disappoint and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Below are some places you should certainly try if and when you are around the Syracuse, NY area.

The best part about the itinerary that I’ve laid out above is you can duplicate this no matter the weather as the winter gets snowy and chilly there. If you visit hope you enjoy!

Funk N Waffles – Syracuse, NY

This place was a lot of fun and the food was awesome. Had Jive Turkey homemade stuffing waffle (YES the waffle is made out of stuffing) with smoked turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, and a side of cranberry sauce, Chicken and Waffles as featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives it is buttermilk battered seasoned chicken tenders on top of our house made buttermilk waffle, and Chocolate City a buttermilk waffle with chocolate sauce and chips.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que – Syracuse, NY

This place is well known and for a good reason. Our meal was fantastic, especially the wings. We had Spice-rubbed, pit-smoked, grill finished wings with K-Pow Korean sauce and their sweetheart deal for 2 which is a full rack of ribs and 4 sides. The sides were fries, collard greens, bbq beans, and mac + cheese. Everything was delicious.

Salt City Market – Big in Burma – Syracuse, NY
Salt City Market – Firecracker Thai Kitchen – Syracuse, NY

Salt City Market is such a cool place and vibe. If you have many choices why not have more than one. At Big in Burma I went with the Burmese Pork Curry with marinated pork served with potato and white rice and then at Firecracker Thai Kitchen I really enjoyed their Thai Jumbo Wings that are Marinated with Fish Sauce, Garlic and White Pepper, and Tossed with Chili Sugar. Many great vendors here and a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal.

Grotto – Syracuse, NY

The ambiance here is wonderful and the service was top notch. Better yet the food was really good. The meal was shrimp bisque, calamari frites that are panko dusted with a side of sweet chili relish, cold water clams with pancetta, garlic, roasted red peppers, white wine garlic butter, grilled bread, and lamb shank with gnocchi and seasonal veggies. Perfect place for any occasion.

High-end sports-bar chain with a huge menu of New American fare and an extensive list of draft beers. I enjoyed their boneless BBQ wings. Just the right amount of spicy and kick to the sauce while still providing that sweet smokey profile you look for with BBQ. With Black Friday around the corner and holiday shopping in full force they are located at the Moorestown Mall so you can get any shopping done beforehand and enjoy a meal to go on your way home or take a break and dine in after your done checking out the stores.

French food can be very time consuming and intricate to prepare and serve. This is one of the many reasons I don’t even attempt to make it. Fine French food is also a perfect combination and setting to celebrate those special moments in life. This is how my visit to June BYOB came about. My wife wanted to celebrate our anniversary dinner there. It turned out to be an absolutely blissful experience. The ambiance was immediately set hearing the music playing. The song wafting through the restaurant was a classical version of the Philadelphia Phillies team anthem song ‘Dancing on My Own ‘, but this version was from the Vitamin String Quartet. Talk about the perfect mix of Philly Fever and chill mood music. The service was also impeccable. From start to finish it was sheer joy watching, interacting, and being served. Most important though the food was superb. There is no doubt why June BYOB was voted one of Philadelphia Magazine 2022 Best Restaurants around Philadelphia and ranked by New Jersey Monthly Magazine as one of the Best Restaurants in ALL of New Jersey for 2022. They are putting the work in and it shows. We went with the Tableside Canard à la Presse Voyage which is truly a dinner and a show. A whole Muscovy duck is marinated in red wine. The duck is then presented, roasted, and carved tableside. The duck’s sauce is made from its own natural juices by pressing the carcass in an antique French duck press. Shallots and herbs are flambéd together with cognac, and added to the sauce as well. It is a must to experience especially if you enjoy duck. The duck was cooked wonderfully and was not fatty or chewy at all. We were able to cut into the duck meat like it was butter and so flavorful with just the right amount of char from the fire. Everything we had was Scallop Ceviche – Chardonnay gelee, shaved pink radish, shaved celery, lemon verbena, blood orange vinaigrette, amuse-bouche lobster bisque, Chef Pierre Calmels’ Escargot – escargot, sauce bordelaise, royal trumpet mushrooms, haricot verts, tarragon, crab salad covered with warm pumpkin, crab meat, caviar, and shaved truffle, Duck confit, foie gras parfait, warm potato, purple mustard, Duck à la presse served with seasonal accompaniments and duck presse jus, and Crêpes Suzette.

The market at Haddon Culinary is a foodie’s wonderland. So many cool and interesting items to buy and explore. It is worth a visit here just to stroll around the store. They also offer prepared food that you can warm up at warm as well as fresh food. I tried their Prime French Dip with USDA Prime Rotisserie Beef, Black Pepper Cooper Sharp, Fresh Horseradish Crema, and 12-Hour Natural Beef Jus on a Sarcone’s Roll with a side of homemade chips. The sandwich is obviously made of high end top notch ingredients and created with care. No matter if you order fresh food or not a visit here is well worth the trip to stock up on all the cool items for purchase at the store.

Nothing beats getting a good meal that is affordable and quickly accessible as well. I’m not a fan of ‘fast food’, but you could consider this fast food. You walk in, see what is available, and it’s yours as soon as it is scooped into your dish. Not only was the food served fast, the service was amazing as the woman behind the counter was friendly as could be, and the food was down right tasty and filling. I had their rice combo with pork adobo and pork menudo and a pork empanada that was fantastic. You should really try this place out if you have never been there.

La Cocina Latin Cuisine – Pennsauken, NJ

The meal deals can’t be beat here with the amount of food they serve for the price. The best part though is that the food is wonderful as well. I had the pernil combo and it was simply divine. The pork was cooked perfectly with nice crispy parts, soft and juicy tidbits, and flavorful nice parts of fat at times. I added a fresh passion fruit drink. Everything is right there ready to be served so no wait for the food. Loved my experience here and when around the area will certainly return.

This place is a South Jersey hidden gem. As soon as I stepped inside the woman at the counter yelled, “I know this is your first time here isn’t it” and that was correct. She continued with demanding I take a free passion fruit drink she prepared right then and there. Not only was the drink great, the meal was amazing. From the jerk chicken, plantains, rice, and cabbage everything was cooked perfectly and tasty as could be. It was very affordable as well for the amount of food provided. If you love Jamaican food or happen to be in the area you should give them a try for sure.

This dining destination is not only a place to get a great meal, it’s a place to see and be seen. The atmosphere brings the best out of everyone from dress, what to drive, and where to sit. This is what I imagine this stretch of highway being like nightly in the 70’s with Cherry Hill’s famed Latin Casino, Racetrack, and many other draws that brought world class entertainment, parties and celebrities.

Had a great time, service was superb, and the food was delicious with every bite. Had amazing bread and tomato pie, Zucchini Fritti dusted with parmigiano reggiano, Antipasto Rustico with imported italian meats & cheeses, olives, marinated vegetables, bruschetta, Chicken Maximo with tomato, mushrooms, sherry wine, asparagus, mozzarella, vegetables, potatoes, and a fabulous creme brulee and cheescake to finish the meal. Everything was great and I highly recommend a visit.
