Corson’s Steaks – Haddonfield, NJ

Corson’s Steaks – Haddonfield, NJ

SmallBitesRadio has been named #14 Top Hospitality Shows on the Planet for 2020, 2021, and 2022, #Bluejeanfood.com being named #18 Top Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogs, Websites & Influencers of 2021 and 2022, and being nominated as #MetroPhilly Newspaper 2022 Best of Philly Arts & Entertainment.

Cheesesteaks have gained the spotlight and are very serious business. They also bring huge arguments of who is the best, type of cheese used, meat selection, how it sliced or chopped, does roll stands up, etc. and more. Well another contender has entered the ring and they are coming out swinging. Corson’s Steaks is putting out a really quality cheesesteak at a reasonable price and is more like a well seasoned fighter than a rookie new to the scene. Maybe it is due to their background. The roll was a decent size and held the generous portion of meat and cheese nicely without getting soggy and didn’t fall apart at all. The meat was sliced a little thicker than most, but was a good quality of rib-eye and it let the meat shine instead of chopping it to death like some places while not being chewy or greasy at all with a great balance of cheese to meat. The onions are an added charge, and were a really good compliment. An awesome surprise was the side of fries. They are hand-cut and wonderful. It felt like a summertime boardwalk treat with just the right amount of salt. I only wish they asked for a side of malt vinegar for me to dip them into.

This endeavor is the brainchild of Chef Mark Rooks who has a busy blocking going on in Haddonfield with Corson’s, Rent A Chef, and Beast of the Street all at the same place. It’s a mini, but very powerful foodie empire he has going on there. Corson’s just might be the piece that cements an expansion legacy and what dreams are made out of if they can keep up with the quality and demand that is sure to come. Highly recommend a visit.

This is one of those locations that you may have driven by 1,000 times and never stopped. Well let you tell you that is probably a mistake. Instead of this destination that looks just like a regular corner store is a place putting out quality and tasty food with decent portions sizes at great prices and friendly service. I had their old bay fries with cheese and cheesesteak with fried onions. Both were delicious and I will certainly try other things on their menu next time around the area.

I admire the places that do one thing and do it well. I love places that can do more than one thing. Let me tell you I love Cockadoodle Dans. They have some of the best wings around. PERIOD! The part that makes them special is that they are putting out an amazing cheesesteak also. I had their Batman & Robin Cheesesteak which is fresh shredded chicken, sirloin steak, cooper sharp cheese, and their “Batman and Robin sauce”. The wings are some of the freshest and best sauces you will find anywhere. I had for wings Buffalo Garlic Parm that is just amazing and the OG Hot which are great as well. Be sure to order in advance as they get busy, but the wait is well deserved.

Donkey’s Place – Camden, NJ

Donkey’s Place – Camden, NJ

20160725_155749

Some places are so over hyped with so many awards or foodies telling you that you have to try somewhere that sometimes I do my best to avoid going there as I usually avoid the places where everyone else wants to be. Well I can tell you that Donkey’s Place (DP) in Camden, New Jersey is worth every good piece of good press or positive word of mouth they have ever received. I am not going to delve into is it the best around, as I am not a believer in “best”. What they are though is damn good, delicious, fun to be at, and someplace you have to experience in person to really “get it”. I had the cheesesteak with fried onions, fries, and used their house hot sauce on both that made the meal flat out AMAZING! It is an adventure to get there, the neighborhood is rough, the patrons are a colorful group, and the staff is great. Take one of these components out and I believe DP would not be what they are, and what they are is a full-fledged foodie experience. I know DP has a Medford, New Jersey location as well, but part of me just does not think it could not be anywhere as great as their Camden spot. Then again I did not think DP in Camden was worth the trip and boy was I incorrect. For someone who is always right (insert joke here) I would find it unbelievable to be wrong twice about the same subject. If I am wrong, I know why. It is because DP is a special place, with a mindset that only the owners of DP could duplicate. So until I visit their Medford location, just take my word along with the thousands of others who sing DP’s praises. GO, GO NOW, and ENJOY!
