LIVE on Sunday, October 1st at 635pm Small Bites with Glenn Gross and Derek Timm of Bluejeanfood.com on Wildfire Radio has a great lineup. So you think yoga is relaxing and stress-free? Well you don’t know the half of it. We are thrilled to welcome Sophie Aaronson Jaffe who is a certified raw food chef, accomplished yoga teacher and health and wellness expert with a successful superfood company Philosophie. Sophie Jaffe is also a mom, juggling an increasingly hectic schedule with two young boys, a busy husband and an ever-growing business. She also has partnerships with brands like SHAPE and Free People and a number of celebrity clients who she has cooked for and helped create wellness programs for such as George Clooney, Stacy Keibler and Gerard Butler. She is also one of the top yoga instructors in the fiercely competitive and bustling yoga scene on the Westside of Los Angeles. Sophie is part of a new show where the competitive yoga scene has spawned a new Z Living original series called “Yoga Girls” and these Yoga Girls put the “Om” in “OMG,” as this new ensemble docu-soap follows an elite group of yoga instructors on the “Westside” – LA’s hottest new yoga scene – as they compete to build their client rosters, and leverage their increasing fame and popularity. At the epicenter of the beautiful, the fit, and the fiercely competitive exists a polarizing divide between yoga “traditionalists” and a new generation of social media-driven brand-builders. Yoga Girls reveals a never-before-seen side of yoga in a cutthroat city where the practice can sometimes lead to kicking some serious “asana.” Produced by Charlie Ebersol’s The Company, Yoga Girls premiered Sunday, September 24th at 8 p.m. ET on Z Living so be sure to tune in and catch the other Yoga Girls Caley Joyner, Elise Joan of Elise Joan Fitness.com, Jackie Smythe of Sisterhood of the Traveling Mats.com, Koya Webb with her patented “Get Loved Up” program, Calvin Corzine Yoga, Jesse Schein a senior teacher at Santa Monica’s famed YogaWorks, Vytas Baskauskas, and Sadie Nardini with groundbreaking app “Sadie Nardini’s Ultimate Yoga”.

All that competition has triggered our sweet tooth, and this week in studio Small Bites Radio is sweeter than ever. We welcome Al DiBartolo the owner of DiBartolo Bakery in Collingswood, New Jersey which has been in business since 1969. Started by his father and grandfather and the bakery has grown to be a staple serving south jersey ever since. They do about 30 wedding cakes a week and hundreds of birthdays a month. In 2013 the bakery was featured on Food Network show “Save My Bakery” with renowned Cake Maestro Kerry Vincent and Al has been on Food Network show Halloween Wars which he was on the winning team, and he has also appeared on TLC Season 4 The Next Great Baker.

Still craving sweets? Lucky us we will also be joined by Kat Connor and Lindzi Shanks the co-founders of XO Marshmallow. The goal of XO Marshmallow is to bring the nostalgia of sipping cocoa with s’mallows, or roasting s’mores by the campfire, into the 21st century with a modern twist! They want to take this fluffy, adorable treat and elevate it. They use premium ingredients to develop innovative flavors–from classic Vanilla Bean to Champagne. Their s’mallows are the perfect size to snack on alone, share with others, or use to create a fun and creative dish! Each small batch of gourmet marshmallows is hand crafted with care to ensure consistent quality for marshmallow lovers of all ages. Situated at the South Regional Airport and across from the really nice Air Victory Museum sits the Runway cafe. Very cozy, friendly service. I had grilled chicken, with roasted red peppers, provolone cheese, with a pesto spread on a Panini with a small bag of chips and a pickle.

To quench that fire of adult beverages and delicious food, we also have joining us in studio Michael Sultan and Angela Ficco to talk about their new project by 33rd Street Hospitality at Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company’s The Borough Brewhouse and how the partnership began.

To help sooth the fire for something sweet, we also have coming on to talk to us, Jennifer Cue the CEO of the Seattle-based Jones Soda craft beverage company. Two Fish BYOB – Haddonfield, NJ

Two Fish BYOB – Haddonfield, NJ

2

Sometimes hype is a bad thing. It builds suspense. It makes you wonder. You anticipate greatness. Well Two Fish BYOB in Haddonfield, NJ has been earning quite the following and press accolades. Just yesterday they were named by USA Today Network as one of the Best Restaurants in New Jersey and where you need to eat NOW. They are on the best of list on OpenTable, Yelp, and also mentioned with raving reviews in many newspapers and online mediums. That’s a quite a title to live up to with just a tad bit of pressure, and a lot of hype. Sounds like a job for the Hype Bros, Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder. Ok, maybe not since this is about food and not a WWE wrestling match, but you get the gist.

2a

I would give you my two cents, but Two Fish BYOB had me beat with their penny covered bathroom floor which was pretty cool to see, so I’ll tell you this. Two Fish BYOB is damn good, great service, very intimate, and somewhere you certainly should be dining if you like a nice night out with a delicious dinner. They are somewhat new and have a VERY small menu, but I heard they change the menu regularly to keep it fresh. Chef Mike Stollenwerk has a recipe for success and currently people really enjoy his current recipe including myself. I will certainly be back and hope the recipe just continues to impress and grow seasonally.

Pictured: Shellfish Soup with spiced coconut broth, crab, manilla clam, and butternut squash, as well as entree of Skate Wing with parsley spatzle, celery root, liik, and clam nage.

This Sunday, September 10th, the Philadelphia Eagles 2018 NFL season is kicking off and the hometown team is currently in 1st Place 😉 and SB is back LIVE this Sunday, September 10th at 635pm on WF and just like Hank Williams Jr. sings, we hope you all are READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL, a Sunday night party! We have joining us Coach Dick Vermeil who took the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 1980 with the memorable team of Ron Jaworski, Ken Dunek, and Harold Carmichael. Coach Vermeil also had the St. Louis Rams win their first and only Super Bowl and he also inducted in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. Coach Vermeil comes from a rich wine legacy — and has embarked on a second career as a winemaker. Coach Vermeil’s great grandfather on his mother’s side owned a vineyard, and his paternal great grandfather used the grapes to make wine at home for the family.  Coach Vermeil turned his hobby of winemaking into a thriving business. Today, Vermeil sources fruit from that same vineyard and manages Vermeil Wines in the heart of Napa Valley.

Joining Coach Vermeil on our program will be celebrity Chef Chef Sylva Senat who is known for running kitchens with high-quality ingredients, key flavor combinations and exceptional technique. After a star turn on Bravo’s “Top Chef,” his latest restaurant Maison 208 with builder Herb Reid III, opened in Washington Square last spring to stellar reviews as well as overseeing Dos Tacos. They are both on to talk about Philly Pours event which will benefit RHD’s Children’s Services, a diverse continuum of effective and therapeutic services that have helped thousands of children and their families achieve their behavioral and educational goals. Now in its second year, Philly Pours takes place on Friday, September 22nd at 6:00 pm at the Fretz Showroom in the Philadelphia Navy Yard.  The event features five dining experiences pairing Vermeil Wines with a menu specially curated by Chef Sylva Senat. An exclusive VIP event with Coach Vermeil and Chef Sylva will also take place. Additional information can be found on the Philly Pours website:

That is alone is enough for some shows, but this is Small Bites and we took a week off so we are going to work even harder this week. So also joining us will be Ed Herr the President and CEO of Herr Food Inc. Ed Herr grew up in the snack food business and aspired early on to dedicate his professional career to advancing Herr Foods Inc. As President, Ed’s responsibilities range from general administration of the $250 million family business, including sales, marketing and manufacturing, to management of fleet, farms and properties. He also oversees the company’s activities in the areas of charitable giving and community and corporate relations.

Ed has a life-long devotion to his community, which he has demonstrated through active service. He serves on the boards of a number of organizations. Locally these include: Oxford Mainstreet Inc., the Oxford Senior Center, and the Lighthouse Youth Center. In 2009, Ed helped to found a local faith community, SILO – Serving, Inspiring, Loving Others, and currently serves on the Leadership Team. Ed also serves on the board of the Navigators Church Discipleship Ministry headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the board of New York City Relief. His greatest gift is making our favorite snack Herr’s Sour Cream & Onion which is a must for any school lunch or football party. We can’t wait to talk to him and this amazing company with delicious snacks for any occasion and how when you combine a signature Philly flavor with a popular summer snack you get a crabby stroke of snacking genius. For Herr’s, that’s exactly what happened when Chickie’s & Pete’s whipped up a few hundred servings of kettle corn dusted with its signature crab seasoning and sold it in a limited batch to hungry crowds at Penn’s Landing and Wildwood Boardwalk. The success of the snack inspired Herr’s to partner with the Philly brand to turn the snack into its new Chickie’s & Pete’s Sweet and Crabby Kettle Corn.

Then we have joining us to celebrate their 25th anniversary is Francis Schott and Mark Pascal the owners of Stage Left Steak: A Contemporary American Steakhouse
& StageLeftWineShop.com in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Restaurateurs Francis Schott and Mark Pascal operate two of New Jersey’s most storied restaurants. Stage Left Steak — celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017 — which is famous for its wood-grilled steaks, award-winning wine list and pioneering cocktail program, and has been an incubator for many of the NY region’s top chefs and mixologists. Serving Brooklyn-Italian style fare, Catherine Lombardi opened in 2005, paying homage to the cooking of Mark’s grandmother. Executive Chef James (J.R.) Belt presides over both kitchens. Ricky Stevens is Chef de Cuisine of Stage Left Steak. Schott and Pascal bonded over their shared love of food and drink upon meeting at Rutgers. For more than 8 years, the duo hosted the podcast, The Restaurant Guys, chatting with esteemed culinary guests from Gael Greene and John Mariani to Ruth Reichl and Chefs Eric Ripert and Grant Achatz. It’s going to fun to chat with them.

Someone who is going to enjoy the show and will be in studio as well is Lauren Biddle the Founder of the blog Just Grubbin. They are not professional chefs or anything like that, just a group of friends that absolutely love food. So they decided to start a blog and document their food adventures. You can find out more about them at:
https://justgrubbin.com/

Tired yet? Well pick yourself up, because we also have joining us Wil Levins the President of the Gloucester City Democrat Club looking to make Gloucester Great. What does he think of Hillary Clinton putting the blame on Bernie Sanders in her new Hillary Rodham Clinton Books #WhatHappened? More importantly though, what will politics look like in the future? He will also want to talk about the Gloucester City Democratic Club comedy night fundraiser on Friday October 27th. Sounds like you better get the popcorn ready, I hope Herr’s has some more of that Crabby Kettle Corn for us.

Actor John DiRenzo will also be helping in studio with his valuable insight and experience in the culinary world.

You say you STILL NEED MORE!!! Don’t forget we still have our regular weekly segments from Courier-Post nightlife correspondent and The New York Times recognized John Howard-Fusco for his news of the week and please remember that John’s new book “A Culinary History of Cape May: Salt Oysters, Beach Plums & Cabernet Franc” from Arcadia Publishing The History Press is now available to buy, Chef Barbie Marshall who is a Chef Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen Season 10 finalist, just announced by FOX she will be starring in the newest season of Hell’s Kitchen #AllStars premiering on September 29th that has Hell’s Kitchen Underground excited, and Chef Barbie was named Pennsylvania’s most influential chef by Cooking Light will delight us with her tip of the week, and a joke of the week from legendary joke teller Jackie Martling of The Howard Stern Show fame and Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling is releasing his autobiography “The Joke Man: Bow to Stern” from Post Hill Press with foreword by Artie Lange and is available to pre-order on Amazon.com. Rat’s Restaurant at Grounds For Sculpture – Hamilton, NJ

Rat’s Restaurant at Grounds For Sculpture – Hamilton, NJ

Chef Ed Crochet oversees Rat’s, a French-focused restaurant famous for its unique setting within the 42-acre Grounds for Sculpture park. We REALLY enjoyed our visit to Grounds for Sculpture and anyone looking for a nice day outdoors and some cool art indoors as well should visit.  The restaurant, Rat’s was conceptually designed to be reminiscent of Claude Monet’s beloved Giverny by sculptor Seward Johnson. It is named after the gregarious character “Ratty,” from Kenneth Grahame’s famed children’s story, The Wind in the Willows. The restaurant patio, noted for its sweeping views and al fresco dining, overlooks a lily pond framed by weeping willows, and the “Monet bridge.”

We had a fabulous meal here. Things started out with their seasonal lemonade which during our visit was Blueberry Lemonade.

1rat4

Then things got started with a delicious appetizer of CHARRED WAGYU BEEF with Porcini, Mustard Greens, Rye Crouton that just melted in our mouths.

1rat2

To follow-up that tasty treat was an even tastier morsel of FRENCH ONION SOUP with  Croûton, Gruyère that was one of the better versions I have had in a long time.

1rat3

Ending the meal was their COQ AU RIESLING with Griggstown Chicken, Bacon Lardon, Oyster Mushroom, Cippolini Onion, Pommes Pureé that was AWESOME. Every bite was more flavorful than the next and was cooked perfectly. I would definitely drive all the way up here again just to dine at Rat’s, but making a day of it combined with Grounds for Sculpture made it a day to be remembered and enjoyed by all in the party. It’s a great time topped by a great meal!

On a beautiful Sunday, September 3rd the Trenton Thunder AA affiliate of the New York Yankees hosted the Reading Fightin Phils AA affilate of the Philadelphia Phillies for a doubleheader. My beloved Phils won both games, and while there I enjoyed the Swine Sandwich from the Case’s Pork Roll station. The sandwich was of course Case’s pork roll topped with pulled pork, bacon, and American cheese on a Kaiser roll. It was delicious and the stadium is a great place to watch baseball. Highly recommend a visit and this sandwich. Congrats to the Trenton Thunder on an amazing season and best of luck in the Playoffs.
