Fenwick Island, Delaware – 2026

Fenwick Island, Delaware – 2026

Small Bites Radio is the WINNER of Metro Philly Newspaper Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment 2023-2025, nominated by Metro Philly Newspaper 2022-2026 Best of Arts & Entertainment, named Top Hospitality Shows on the Planet from 2020–2026, #Bluejeanfood.com named Top Philadelphia Best Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogs and Websites from 2021-2026, Best Philly Food Blogs and Websites 2023-26, and Top Philly Food RSS Feeds 2024-2026.

If you’re looking for a relaxing beach getaway that isn’t quite as crowded as some of the bigger shore towns, Fenwick Island, Delaware is definitely worth adding to your list. Sitting right on the Delaware-Maryland line, Fenwick has that laid-back beach town feel where the pace slows down the moment you arrive. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days soaking up the sun, enjoying the ocean, and discovering some really great local restaurants along the way.

Of course, the biggest attraction is the beach itself. The wide, clean stretch of sand is perfect for spending the day relaxing by the water, taking a swim in the Atlantic Ocean, or simply enjoying a long walk along the shoreline. Unlike some of the larger beach destinations, Fenwick feels peaceful without sacrificing everything that makes a beach vacation fun. Whether you’re an early riser catching the sunrise or someone who likes to stay until the evening breeze rolls in, it’s easy to see why so many people return here year after year.

Beyond the beach, there’s plenty to enjoy. Mini golf, local shops, ice cream stands, water activities, and nearby attractions in both Delaware and Ocean City, Maryland make it easy to fill your days. Since everything is so close together, you can spend the morning on the beach, grab lunch, explore the area, and still be back in time to watch the sunset over the water.

One thing that really surprised us was just how many good places there were to eat. For a smaller beach town, Fenwick has an impressive food scene, with everything from seafood shacks to breakfast spots and casual restaurants that are perfect after a day in the sun.

The Lobster Shanty – Fenwick Island, DE

The biggest highlight of the trip was definitely The Lobster Shanty. If you’re a lobster roll fan, this place is a must. The lobster was fresh, sweet, and piled generously into the perfectly toasted roll. Every bite tasted like summer at the beach. Paired with crispy fries, it was one of those simple meals that absolutely delivers. Sometimes you don’t need anything fancy when the ingredients are that good, and The Lobster Shanty proved exactly that.

Bahama’s Crabshack – Fenwick Island, DE

Another standout was Bahama’s Crabshack, and the seafood platter was honestly enough food for two people. It came loaded with a crab cake, fried shrimp, clam strips, fried oysters, fried flounder, fresh-cut fries, and a bowl of rich, creamy cream of crab soup. Every single item was cooked perfectly, from the crispy seafood to the flavorful crab cake. It’s the kind of meal where every time you think you’ve reached the bottom of the platter, there’s somehow even more food waiting underneath.

Surf Bagel – Fenwick Island, DE

Breakfast was an easy choice at Surf Bagel, and it was every bit as good as people say. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with scrapple on an onion bagel along with a cold orange juice, and it was the perfect way to start the day before heading to the beach. The bagel was fresh, chewy, and packed with flavor, and the scrapple was cooked just right. It’s easy to understand why Surf Bagel has such a loyal following.

House of Sauce – Fenwick Island, DE

When it came time for something a little different, House of Sauce delivered some of the best wings we’ve had in a long time. They offer around 30 different flavors, so there’s something for everyone, whether you like sweet, spicy, or somewhere in between. Even better than the sauces were the wings themselves. They were cooked perfectly with a crispy outside while staying incredibly juicy and tender inside. That’s exactly how great wings should be.

Vanderwende’s at Fenwick – Fenwick Island, DE

No beach vacation is complete without ice cream, and Vanderwende’s at Fenwick was the perfect stop to cool off. The ice cream was incredibly creamy and rich, and the mint chocolate chip hit the spot after a long day in the sun. It’s one of those classic vacation stops that somehow tastes even better after spending the day on the beach.

Lizzie’s Cafe & Bistro on 142nd Street – Ocean City, MD

Before heading home, we made one last stop just a few minutes away at Lizzie’s Cafe & Bistro on 142nd Street in Ocean City, Maryland. We ordered another lobster roll, served with chips, and it made for a great final meal before wrapping up the trip. Being so close to Fenwick makes it an easy stop if you’re exploring the area.

Fenwick Island is one of those places that reminds you a beach vacation doesn’t have to be packed with giant crowds and nonstop attractions to be memorable. Sometimes all you need is a beautiful beach, the sound of the ocean, great local restaurants, and a few days to slow down and enjoy yourself.

Between relaxing on the sand, exploring the area, eating some fantastic seafood, grabbing an amazing breakfast bagel, enjoying perfectly cooked wings, and finishing the nights with homemade ice cream, Fenwick Island gave us everything we were looking for in a beach getaway.

If you’re planning your next trip to the Delaware beaches, don’t overlook Fenwick Island. It has all the ingredients for a relaxing vacation, and after one visit, it’s easy to understand why so many people make it a yearly tradition.

Mr. Edison – Philadelphia, PA

Mr. Edison – Philadelphia, PA

Small Bites Radio is the WINNER of Metro Philly Newspaper Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment 2023-2025, nominated by Metro Philly Newspaper 2022 Best of Arts & Entertainment, named Top Hospitality Shows on the Planet from 2020–2025, #Bluejeanfood.com named Top Philadelphia Best Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogs and Websites from 2021-2025, Best Philly Food Blogs and Websites 2023-25, and Top Philly Food RSS Feeds 2024-2025.

If you’re looking for more than just dinner, Mr. Edison in Philadelphia is a place you need to visit. Located inside the historic Bellevue Hotel in the heart of Center City, this restaurant has a really cool story. The Bellevue was one of the first grand buildings in Philadelphia to be lit with electrical fixtures designed by Thomas Edison himself. That connection inspired the restaurant’s name and its whole vibe, bringing together history, elegance, and amazing hospitality.

Mr. Edison is also the first Philadelphia restaurant from world-renowned restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow. You can tell he wanted this place to be more than just another restaurant. Every detail feels carefully planned to create a night you’ll remember.

The restaurant recreates the feeling of a classic 1940s supper club, and they absolutely nailed it. From the moment you walk in, it feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The beautiful décor, soft lighting, and fantastic live music make the whole evening feel special. The band was incredible and added so much to the atmosphere without ever being too loud. It was the kind of place where you wanted to stay long after dinner was over.

The service was amazing. Honestly, it was almost too attentive because someone was always stopping by to make sure we had everything we needed. But really…when was the last time anyone complained about getting too much service? Most restaurants leave you wondering where your server disappeared to, so I’ll gladly take a little extra attention. Every member of the staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely seemed happy that we were there.

The cocktails were excellent, and the prices were very reasonable when you consider the beautiful atmosphere, live entertainment, outstanding service, and the quality of the food. By the end of the night, we felt like we had gotten far more than we paid for.

We started with the Edison Meets Rockefeller Oysters, and they were the perfect way to kick off the meal. These roasted oysters came with herbs, butter, creamy Mornay sauce, and guanciale, all sitting on little mounds of salt. The best part was eating the whole oyster in one bite because you got just the right amount of salt along with all the rich, buttery flavors. It was one of those dishes you immediately start talking about after the first bite.

Next was the burrata with melon and prosciutto. It was fresh, creamy, and light, with the sweetness of the melon balancing perfectly against the salty prosciutto. It was simple, refreshing, and absolutely delicious.

Then came the lobster tortelli, which was packed with flavor. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the filling was rich and full of lobster, and every bite made us want another.

For my entrée, I ordered the whole roasted brick chicken, and it may have been the star of the night. It was unbelievably juicy, tender, and full of flavor from the first bite to the last. We paired it with the mushrooms and onions, and honestly, I couldn’t have picked a better side. They complemented the chicken perfectly and completed the dish.

Even though we were already full, there was no way we were skipping dessert. We shared the carrot cake and the crème brûlée, and both were fantastic. They were the perfect sweet ending to an already incredible meal.

Mr. Edison isn’t just a restaurant, it’s an experience. Between the history of the Bellevue Hotel, the connection to Thomas Edison, the glamorous 1940s supper club atmosphere, the outstanding live music, the attentive service, excellent cocktails, and food that impressed us from the very first bite to the last, it’s one of those places you’ll find yourself talking about long after you leave.

If you’re looking for a night that’s about more than just eating dinner, Mr. Edison absolutely delivers.

A Food Lover’s Guide to Mexico City: Staying Near the Zócalo

Mexico City – 2026

Mexico City hits you all at once in the best possible way. It’s vibrant, chaotic, historic, and endlessly delicious. Staying near the Zócalo, the city’s main square, puts you right in the heart of it all. From centuries-old architecture to bustling markets and some of the best street food on the planet, this area is an unbeatable home base for exploring.

Why Stay Near the Zócalo?

The Zócalo (Plaza de la Constitución) is surrounded by landmarks like the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace, but what really makes it special is the energy. Step outside your hotel and you’re instantly immersed in daily life with street vendors, musicians, families, and travelers all sharing the same space. From here, you can walk almost everywhere: historic neighborhoods, museums, markets, and most importantly food spots that range from humble street stands to elevated dining experiences.

What to Do Around the Area

  • Wander the historic streets and admire colonial architecture
  • Visit nearby museums and cultural sites
  • Explore Mercado de San Juan for unique local ingredients
  • Grab a rooftop drink and watch the city buzz below
  • Eat. Constantly. Seriously, this is a food destination first

Where I Ate (And What You Shouldn’t Miss)

Here’s a breakdown of the standout places I tried with each one memorable in its own way.

Los Cocuyos – Mexico City, Mexico

If you’re chasing legendary tacos, this is the place. The al pastor tacos were absolutely out of this world as they are perfectly seasoned, juicy, and carved fresh. This spot gained fame after being featured by Anthony Bourdain, and it lives up to every bit of the hype.

Santa Clara – Mexico City, Mexico

An ice cream shop that feels like a dream stop on a warm afternoon. They offer tons of flavors, but the pistachio stood out as rich, creamy, and not overly sweet.

Balcón del Zócalo – Mexico City, Mexico

A perfect breakfast with a view. Sitting above the city while enjoying a delicious, well-prepared meal made for a calm and elevated start to the day.

Oaxaca Lindo (Mercado de San Juan Pugibet) – Mexico City, Mexico

A true culinary adventure. I tried chapulines crispy toasted grasshoppers seasoned with garlic, lime, chili, and salt. Surprisingly flavorful and a must-try if you’re feeling adventurous. They also had a variety of unique corn-based snacks.

Quesadillas Bolivar – Mexico City, Mexico

Comfort food at its best. The picadillo quesadilla filled with ground beef, potatoes, carrots, and peas was savory, hearty, and packed with flavor.

Pastelería Ideal – Mexico City, Mexico

The name doesn’t lie. This bakery is massive and full of incredible options cakes, cookies, pastries, breads, and sandwiches. It’s the kind of place where you walk in for one thing and leave with five.

Pollos Ray – Mexico City, Mexico

A must-visit for comfort food done right. The rotisserie chicken is the star—perfectly seasoned with crispy skin and juicy meat—paired with roasted potatoes that soak up all the flavor. Simple, satisfying, and incredibly well executed.

Taqueria Arandas – Mexico City, Mexico

A reliable spot for both tacos and sandwiches. Simple, satisfying, and great when you need a quick bite.

La Frapp – Mexico City, Mexico

A charming rooftop café tucked into the historic center. It’s a great place to relax, sip something refreshing, and take in the surroundings.

Churros Jordan – Mexico City, Mexico

Freshly made churros filled with mango? Yes, please. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly sweet.

La Cocina de mi Mamá- Mexico City, Mexico

A comforting, home-style meal. I had fish filet, steak, and chicken mole poblano each dish rich, traditional, and deeply satisfying.

El Chino Palma – Mexico City, Mexico

Fast, casual, and customizable. Think quick-service Chinese. I went with fried rice, mixed veggies, chicken, and honey chicken. Great for something different.

Tacos Hola El Güero – Mexico City, Mexico

The beef guisado here was fantastic as tender, flavorful, and served with that homemade touch that makes all the difference.

Molino El Pujol – Mexico City, Mexico

A unique stop. The avocado taco was something different. It was simple, earthy, and surprisingly satisfying.

Taquería El Jarocho – Mexico City, Mexico

Hands down, the best taco I had in Mexico City. The pork flank paired with a morita chile sauce brought a spicy, smoky depth that made it unforgettable.

Tacos Los Alexis – Mexico City, Mexico

Perfectly cooked steak tacos topped with sautéed onions. Straightforward, but executed flawlessly.

Tizne Tacomotora – Mexico City, Mexico

A standout fusion spot blending Korean and Mexican flavors. The kalbi asada and smoked brisket tacos were bold, smoky, and incredibly creative.

Marisquería y Cervecería HALYAN – Mexico City, Mexico

A great place to wind down. The tarro michelado a beer cocktail served in a frozen mug with salt and chamoy was refreshing and packed with flavor.

Mexico City is a must visit

Mexico City, especially around the Zócalo, is a paradise for anyone who loves food and culture. Every corner offers something new to taste, see, or experience. Whether you’re trying traditional dishes like mole and chapulines or diving into creative fusion tacos, the city rewards curiosity. If you come hungry, you’re doing it right.

🍷🍝 Tarantella in Medford, NJ: A Taste of Tradition

Had a fantastic meal at Tarantella Ristorante in Medford, NJ, and if you’re looking for classic Italian comfort with rich flavors and hearty portions, this spot absolutely delivers.

🦪 Started with the Clams Casino, and they were everything you want from the dish with tender clams topped with crisp bacon, breadcrumbs, and that buttery, garlicky goodness that makes you wish the plate was bottomless. A perfect opener.

🥖 Then came the Meatball Sandwich and wow. Homemade meatballs, slow-simmered sauce, and melted cheese on a fresh, toasted roll. Messy in the best way and packed with that Sunday-dinner flavor.

🍗 And the star of the night: Chicken Marsala. Tender chicken breast in a deep, rich mushroom Marsala wine sauce slightly sweet, savory, and incredibly satisfying. Served with pasta, of course, because why not go all in?

The atmosphere is cozy and inviting — family-friendly but still nice enough for a date night and the service was warm and attentive even for take out. You can tell this is a local favorite, and now I see why.

Huang He Restaurante Chinês – Lisbon, Portugal

Huang He Restaurante Chinês – Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon has no shortage of great food, but sometimes you’re craving something warm, familiar, and deeply satisfying — and that’s exactly where Huang He Restaurante Chinês comes in 🇵🇹🥢. Tucked into the city and loved by locals, Huang He is one of those places that feels comforting the second you walk through the door. There’s always a lively hum inside — families chatting, plates clinking, servers moving quickly — and the smell of stir-fries and sauces instantly gets your appetite going 😋🔥.

We went all in on a proper feast, starting with crepe egg rolls, and honestly… the crunch alone deserves applause 👏🥚. Golden and crispy on the outside, hot and savory on the inside, they’re the kind of starter that disappears faster than you expect because everyone keeps reaching for “just one more.” The perfect way to kick things off.

Next came the fried rice, which is where Huang He really shows its comfort-food strengths 🍚✨. Perfectly cooked grains, well-seasoned, not greasy, and packed with flavor — this is the kind of fried rice that doesn’t feel like a side dish, but a main character. Every bite felt balanced and familiar, the kind of dish that makes you understand why this place stays busy.

The black bean beef followed, rich and savory with that deep umami punch that black bean sauce does so well 🐄🖤. The beef was tender, coated in a glossy sauce that clung to every piece, bold without being overwhelming. It’s one of those dishes you keep pairing with rice because the flavors just belong together.

Then came the curry chicken, warm, aromatic, and incredibly comforting 🍛🍗. The sauce was smooth and fragrant, gently spiced rather than overpowering, wrapping the chicken in layers of flavor that felt cozy and indulgent at the same time. It’s the kind of dish you’d happily order again on a rainy day — or honestly, any day.

What really makes Huang He special isn’t just the food, but the overall experience. It’s casual, welcoming, and unpretentious — a place where locals come for generous portions, fair prices, and flavors that never disappoint. Whether you’re sitting down for a relaxed meal or coming in hungry and ready to eat, it delivers exactly what you want without trying too hard 🥡💛.

If you’re in Lisbon and craving Chinese comfort food that hits all the right notes — crispy, savory, saucy, and satisfying — Huang He is absolutely worth a stop. One of those meals that leaves you full, happy, and already thinking about what you’d order next time 😌🍜.

Medium Rare – Philadelphia, PA

New Alert: Medium Rare recently landed in Philly and wow it’s a must-try! 🥩🍟🍨

Small Bites Radio has been named Top Hospitality Shows on the Planet from 2020–2025, #Bluejeanfood.com named Top Philadelphia Best Philadelphia Lifestyle Blogs and Websites from 2021-2025, Best Philly Food Blogs and Websites 2023-25, Top Philly Food RSS Feeds 2024-2025, nominated by Metro Philly Newspaper 2022-25 Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment, and WINNER of Metro Philly Newspaper Best of Philadelphia Arts & Entertainment in 2023 and 2024.

It’s rare I talk about chains, but Medium Rare isn’t your typical steakhouse and their new spot in Fishtown is absolutely worth the hype. 👏

For those who don’t know, Fishtown is one of Philly’s most creative, buzzing neighborhoods full of indie vibes, amazing street art, cool coffee shops, and now one of the most fun (and affordable!) steak dinners you’ll ever have.

🔪 About Medium Rare
Originally from DC, this mini chain has built a cult following for doing one thing really well, steak frites. The menu is set and simple:
🥖 Warm rustic bread
🥗 Mixed green salad
🥩 Tender steak with their signature secret sauce
🍟 A mountain of golden fries

You can add a few extras too. I added the grilled mushroom, and it was absolutely worth it. Umami heaven. 🍄

Everything came hot and fresh, and the whole experience feels fancy but is incredibly budget-friendly, which is rare these days. (notice the Rare puns)

And don’t sleep on dessert. The Ice Cream Sundae was a delightful treat to end the night. 🍨 Classic, nostalgic, and totally hit the spot.

🍷 Great cocktails, chill atmosphere, and friendly service make this place feel special without the pretense. Whether it’s date night, catching up with friends, or treating yourself, Medium Rare in Fishtown is the move.

📍 Trust me and go. You’ll eat like royalty, feel like a local, and probably start planning your next visit before the check even arrives.
