Siu Kee Duck House – Chinatown – Philadelphia, PA

Takeout only here, but deliciousness awaits when you get to your destination to eat. Really enjoyed my order. Had the whole Peking Duck with pancakes, scallions, and hoisin sauce. Give them a try and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Famous Sgt. Bob Smoke Filipino BBQ and Grill – Pennsville, NJ

Famous Sgt. Bob Smoke Filipino BBQ and Grill – Pennsville, NJ

#SmallBitesRadio has been named #14 out of Top 30 Best Hospitality Shows on the planet for 2020. We are thrilled about the news.

Let me start this post by apologizing to Famous Sgt. Bob Smoke Filipino BBQ and Grill for the terrible photo I have posted in regards to the food I had. This photo makes an amazing meal look average. This is one of those times not to believe what you see.

It’s far and few between that a restaurant surprises and impresses me. Let me go on the record and say that Famous Sgt. Bob Smoke Filipino BBQ and Grill in Pennsville, NJ did both. During these trying times it is harder than ever to go above and beyond. They did it seamlessly as they spotted I was a new customer and made sure I had a sample taste of everything they offer and welcomed me warmly. What they are offering is fantastic food, very generous portion sizes, making you feel at home, and doing it all at a reasonable price point.

The menu is varied with bbq, grilled, and Filipino specialties. I had the brisket sandwich, 2 pork kabobs, 2 chicken kabobs, grilled chicken platter with garlic rice, and Filipino chicken adobo with pancit noodles. Absolutely every bite was amazing from everything. This is one of those times when I can’t really say to have one thing over another. They were all great. To top it all off they are just a short drive away from Riverview Beach Park where you can enjoy your meal at a picnic table over looking the Delaware River making it a perfect meal to have on a day with good weather. This place is a gem in South Jersey and anyone who calls themselves a foodie really needs to give this place a try.

Oyster Cracker Café at Bayshore Center at Bivalve – Port Norris, NJ

Oyster Cracker Café at Bayshore Center at Bivalve – Port Norris, NJ

SmallBitesRadio has been named #14 out of Top 30 Best Hospitality Shows on the planet for 2020. We are thrilled about the news.

The Bayshore Center at Bivalve is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the understanding of the human impact on New Jersey’s aquatic environment through education, advocacy, and programming. BCB envisions a New Jersey with clean, safe and healthy water for recreation, consumption and commercial fishing and operates the authentically restored 1928 oyster schooner A.J. MEERWALD, New Jersey’s official Tall Ship, as a hands-on sailing classroom throughout the region. It also operates the Delaware Bay Museum and offers shore-based programs at its campus and schooner’s home port of Bivalve on the scenic Maurice River in Cumberland County.

The best part of all is that restaurant Oyster Cracker Café is onsite to enjoy all the things mentioned above and enjoy a nice waterfront meal. I had the oyster chowder, fried oysters, homemade chips, corn and black bean salsa, and peach pie made with local peaches. Everything was delicious and recommend a visit. Just be aware that the are only open until the end of September as it is seasonal.

Charlies Hamburgers – Folsom, PA

Charlies Hamburgers – Folsom, PA

#SmallBitesRadio has been named #14 out of Top 30 Best Hospitality Shows on the planet for 2020. We are thrilled about the news.

Charlies has been around since 1935 so they must be doing something right. Well they are in fact doing something awesome. Amazing burgers and fries that is. I had a cheeseburger, a Peg Special (Double Cheeseburger, with fried onions and bacon), and an order of large fries. Really can’t say enough good things about my meal here. If you’re in the area, you are doing yourself a disservice by not stopping by. Just be sure to order a few burgers as they are tiny, but well worth it. Enjoy and thank me later.

Sakura Japanese Steak House – Oaklyn, NJ

Sakura Japanese Steak House – Oaklyn, NJ

If you want the convenience of a fast food experience, but you’re craving Japanese food or sushi and in a rush there isn’t a better place I can think of and not have to worry about #Covid then here. This location of Sakura is situated in a building that was formerly a Taco Bell. Simply call or go online to place your order in advance and tell them you will pick it up in the Drive-Thru window and it’s as easy as a normal fast-food destination with them handing it to you right in your car. I had the chicken teriyaki, chicken hibachi, and sushi selections of philly roll, eel, red snapper, and mackerel. Everything was good and above average at a reasonable price.

Chick’s Deli – Cherry Hill, NJ

Chick’s Deli – Cherry Hill, NJ

I don’t claim to be the famous James Pappas of Cheesesteak Adventure’s highlighted in The Philadelphia Inquirer and on blog Philly Grub, nor do I intend to eat close to 500 cheesesteaks in a little over one year’s time, but I’m from Philly so I know a good cheesesteak when I have one. With that being said, hidden in a tiny strip mall in an alleyway sits Chick’s Deli with a delicious cheesesteak. I ordered a mushroom cheesesteak with fried onions, American cheese, and ketchup. The roll held up beautifully and sandwich was delicious. Chick’s is definitely a good choice if you live or happen to be in the area.

Cilento Sandwich Company & Valente’s Italian Specialties – Haddonfield, NJ

Cilento Sandwich Company & Valente’s Italian Specialties – Haddonfield, NJ

Fyi – This place now has a new concept called Valente’s Cucina BYOB so the below is now longer valid, but they may keep many aspects of the past.

Sitting inside of Valente’s Italian Specialties the business Cilento Sandwich Company runs out of the same space. You order online from Valente’s Italian Specialties website, choose either pick-up or delivery and the time. The experience is seamless, service was very friendly, and portions are generous with reasonable prices.  I had the Traditional cheesesteak made of thin-sliced fresh beef and cheese served on half of a Sarcone’s long loaf and the Corrado sandwich which is chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, house-roasted peppers, extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Able to order from Valente’s Italian Specialties on the same order I decided to give them a try and had their anise pizzelles and the ricotta cannoli cream.

Cityrub Steak & Smokehouse – Newark, NJ

Cityrub Steak & Smokehouse – Newark, NJ

This location couldn’t be more different than its surroundings. On a nondescript road with nothing but junkyards, big trucks rumbling down, and a plain exterior the instant moment you walk through the second set of doors at Cityrub Steak & Smokehouse it seems like you were transported somewhere nowhere near you just were. The inside is bright, lively, and hip with a cool décor and varied menu. The service was pleasant and friendly and food was decent. I had the smoked wings which were fantastic. Really great wings here! For the meal I had a Brisket Sandwich with caramelized onions, mushrooms, Manchego cheese, and potato wedges along with a half rack of Memphis style pork ribs accompanied by grilled asparagus. It was enjoyable and would go back.

NYC Eats 2020

NYC Eats 2020

I recently heard that New York City has close to 27,000 restaurants. If you break that down, you could eat at a new place every day for almost 77 years. This in theory will never be accomplished, but who knows. Humans are living longer and longer so anything is possible I guess. Below is my attempt to start eating at as many as possible. It may take me a few more than 77 years at the pace I’m at, but you have to start someone. This is certainly not a best of list, but here are a few places I enjoyed on my latest adventure in NYC.

Buenavista Restaurant & Bar – NYC, NY

Had seared baby calamari over roasted spicy potato with artisanal magic Jerez, seared octopus, stuffed clam with scallops, shrimp, and mussels, creamy lobster stew soup and green asparagus with favas and chantille foam on top, and roasted Iberian pork Osobuco, over scalloped ovened potatoes and spinach served with green apple radish aujus. Really just an amazing meal and service was first class. Highly recommend a visit here.

At Nine Restaurant & Bar – NYC, NY

Had shrimp kanom jeep (steamed minced shrimp wrapped in wonton skin served with vinaigrette sauce) and shrimp pad see eiw (broad flat rice noodle stir fried with egg, American and Chinese broccoli in sweet soy sauce. Very cool atmosphere and delicious food that was served quickly and efficiently.

Best Bagel & Coffee – NYC, NY

9
That was a fantastic way to start the morning with a fresh made bacon, egg, and cheese on an onion bagel. When I say fresh made, I mean fresh as they are making the bagels right there. A great breakfast stop that was fast and affordable.

Schmackary’s – Hell’s Kitchen – NYC, NY

2
The funfetti cookie was heavenly and one of the best cookies I have had in a while. The cookies and cream as well and the classic were a yummy treat as well. The entire menu seems like fun and hope to try some more soon.

Cork & Kale – NYC, NY

5
Sitting in the lower level of Even Hotel Times Square I their frittata of red pepper, red onion, sun dried tomato, spinach, whole egg, gouda, and peccorino cheese with fresh fruit

Stout NYC – Bryant Park – NYC, NY

1
I had the Big Boy Hot Dog which is a foot-long hot dog with braised onions and stout sauce served on a potato roll.
